There are several checks to be carried out on a connecting rod to ensure its good condition.
It all starts with a wash in order to be able to do an initial visual check. Then, we carry out a metrological check, that is to say, taking measurements of the bearings (connecting rods and bearings) to check the dimension and determine the need for change, if the wear of the crankshaft is not too pronounced.
We also carry out a deflection check to verify the correct alignment of the bearing surfaces (longitudinal check). It is possible to straighten a crankshaft whose alignment is no longer optimal up to a deflection of approximately 3 to 4/10ths (depending on the size of the crankshaft).
Finally, it is often necessary to carry out magnetic (or x-ray) scanning to look for cracks when the crankshaft has overheated following a drop in lubrication.
